The Air Force Junior ROTC program is a four year program for high school students. Students are eligible beginning with their freshman year, but may join the program at the start of any academic year (9-12). One year of AFJROTC can be used as a Professional and Technical Studies (PTS) credit with the follow-on years counting as electives. There are two primary elements of AFJROTC instruction: Aerospace Science and Leadership Education. These classes combine a standard academic setting with a leadership lab. For the aerospace science courses, we normally offer AS-100, A Journey into Aviation History, and AS-200, Global and Cultural Studies, on a rotational basis for the first two years of the program. Leadership Education, depending on the cadet's year in the program, includes Air Force customs and courtesies, cadet corps activities, study habits, time management, communication skills, and leadership and management studies. In addition to standard exams, the cadets will use the information learned in the classes to make formal and informal oral and written presentations. As the cadets progress through the program they may be assigned leadeship roles within an Air Force military framework in both the leadership and academic areas. The leadership roles will acquaint cadets with military career areas, enhance students' confidence, and develop self-discipline as well as group discipline. |
The goals of the program are to instill values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment in high school students. |
